Farmers urged to use chemicals carefully » Farmers across the country have been urged to observe measures in the application of chemicals on their farmlands. Director for Chemical Control Management, John A. Pwamang gave the advice in an interview on Rite fm’s Morning Ride. According to him, any chemicals that have the ability of killing insects and rats could also have harmful effect on human beings. In view of this, he advised that farmers should use chemicals judiciously. He advised that it is appropriate for farmers to wear protective cloths like overall in the application of chemicals on farmlands. This he noted will protect the skin against the harmful effects of chemicals. He also advised that farmers should wear gloves, eye shield and nose mask to protect the hand, eye and nose respectively. Kuapa Yo has helped me, a Farmer’s confession » Mr. Odukro Kweku Titi, a mix crop farmer at Huhunya Aboabo in the Yilo Krobo district in the Eastern Region confesses Rite FM’s  programme ‘Kuapa Yo’ has really improved his farming activities. ‘Kuapa Yo’ which is aired every Thursday between the hours of 1 to 2pm educates farmers on how to observe good farming practices in livestock, crops and fishing. According to Mr. Kweku Titi, he never tune off from Rite FM especially during the agric talk shows. He explained that in the aspect of maize, he has learnt how best he can store and keep the crop away from pest. He underscore the fact that planting hybrid seeds has also yield a very good result on his farm by increasing productivity. Tomato, Maize Prices Go Up PDF Print E-mail

The price of tomatoes went up at the Agbogbloshie, Kumasi Central, Takoradi and Hohoe markets at all trading levels over the week .

At the wholesale trading level, prices went up by 29 percent (GH¢ 4.00 to GH¢5.19), 3 percent (GH¢2.94 to GH¢3.03), 14 percent (GH¢3.50 to GH¢4.00) and 20 percent (GH¢5.00 to GH¢6.00) respectively.

Retail prices of the commodity went up by 30 percent (GH¢3.84 to GH¢5. (GH¢2.30 to GH¢2.50), 7 percent (GH¢2.80 to GH¢3.00) and 13 percent (GH¢3.80 to GH¢4.30) respectively.
